Insurgents Out, Combat Outpost In
CAMP VICTORY - Just days after a major precision air strike in southern Arab Jabour to root out al-Qaeda in Iraq, combat engineers traversed the battlefield, arriving in the area to construct Multi-National Division - Center's newest combat outpost.

New Health Clinic Opens in Fallujah
FALLUJAH - A community healthcare clinic opened in the Shuhada district of Fallujah Tuesday.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq networks disrupted; one killed, 19 detained
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Coalition forces killed one terrorist and detained 19 suspects Thursday and today during operations targeting al-Qaeda networks in central and northern Iraq.

Northeast of Samarra, near the Hamrin Mountains Thursday, Coalition forces targeted a suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq associate who allegedly serves as an interrogator at a terrorist prison and training camp in the region. Reports indicate the individual facilitates weapons purchases and fighter movements in the area. Also, the targeted individual’s brother was killed during an operation Sep. 30 for his involvement in the foreign terrorist facilitation and kidnapping network in the Hamrin mountain region (see MNF-I press release A070930b, "Coalition forces disrupt al-Qaeda network; two killed, 21 detained," dated Sept. 30, 2007). Marines Launch Rescue Effort to Save 3-year-old Hadithah Girl
CAMP FALLUJAH - Marines operating in Al Anbar Province airlifted a young Hadithah girl in desperate need of a life-saving surgery, and her mother to the Jordanian border Jan. 22.

They were met there by a team of medical professionals who will escort them to Nashville, Tenn., for open-heart surgery.

Amina Al'a Thabit, a 3-year-old who suffers from a congenital heart defect, was discovered by Marines assigned to 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, which is now part of Regimental Combat Team 5, patrolling the area as part of their daily interaction with the populace. [...]
Al Qaeda Can Run, But Can’t Hide in Northern Iraq, General Says
WASHINGTON - The tables have turned for al Qaeda in northern Iraq, as a surge of operations there in the new year has put terrorists on the run looking for new places to hide, a commander in the region said Jan. 22.

Army Maj. Gen. Mark Hertling, commander of Multinational Division North, briefed Pentagon reporters from Iraq.

Operation Iron Harvest, part of the larger countrywide Operation Phantom Phoenix launched just before Christmas, has pounded parts of four northern provinces that have, for the most part, afforded the group safe haven, Hertling said. The operation's main effort has been in Diyala, specifically the area called the "breadbasket," near Muqdadiyah, in eastern Diyala province, although it includes Multinational Division North's other provinces of Salahuddin, Ninevah, and Tamim.
