BAGHDAD, Iraq - Today, the Iraqi people lost esteemed members of their community who were working together to create a brighter future for Iraq.We condemn in the strongest terms today’s barbaric attack against the Members of Parliament. We also send our sincerest condolences to those families who have suffered the loss of a family member, colleague, or friend as a result of this tragedy.This reprehensible act, directed against a government body that speaks for all Iraqis, was intended to frustrate Iraq’s efforts to build a secure, stable, and prosperous future. The Coalition stands firmly with the government of Iraq and its Security Forces in ridding Iraq of terrorism.We will continue to fight those who undermine Iraq’s sovereignty and security. There will be hard days ahead, but today’s attack has only strengthened our commitment to the Iraqi people and to the government that represents them.

Mitchell: Petraeus Held Closed-Door Strategy Meeting With Republican Caucus

This morning on the Chris Matthews Show, NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell revealed that Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, met “very recently” with the Senate Republican caucus to discuss their strategy on Iraq legislation.

“Petraeus went to the Republican caucus and told them, I will have real progress to you by August,” Mitchell said. The Republicans claim they told him that after August, they will end their support for the war. “They have told him at a caucus meeting as very, very recently, that if there isn’t progress by August — and real progress means not a day of violence and a day of sanity — that they will pull the plug.”

The RS Insider hears that House Democratic Leaders turned down a chance to meet with General Petraeus this morning – and considering how they were busy rolling out their plan to undercut him today, that’s understandable.

I received this link from the office of Roy Blunt, Republican whip, and I was kind of busy posting ALL about the VICTORIOUS Gathering of Eagles get-together on 3/17/07 to post this.

From the Wall Street Journal Editorial Page, we find:

Everybody’s a General in the Army called Congress.

That is a perfect rendering of the arrogance of a political body that has neglected the Constitution of the United States and has taken upon themselves to dictate how the American People are to live, breath, think and believe. This is totally uncool as well as unacceptable.

“To understand why the Founders put Presidents in charge of war fighting, look no further than the supplemental war spending bill now moving through the House. Everybody’s a four-star in Congress’s Army, and every general wants his own command, especially if it includes cash for the troops, er, campaign contributors. Too bad none of this bears any relation to what real General David Petraeus is trying to accomplish in Iraq…”

Playing politics with this country’s military and national security IS absolutely UNFORGIVEABLE.

“…The enemies of Iraq will shrink at no act, however barbaric. They will do all that they can to shake the confidence of the people and to convince the world that this effort is doomed. We must not underestimate them…”

That statement includes our homegrown terrorist sympathizers within our political parties, by the way.

“…Together with our Iraqi partners, we must defeat those who oppose the new Iraq…”

Bingo. I hope the democrats are listening. Perhaps they are. That is why they are so angry.

Hello? Libs? Why are the libs trying to doom the Iraqis and the war on terror to a dismal failure?
