On January 26th, 2007, the Senate unanimously confirmed General David Petraeus to utilize his strategy, his Iraq War Plan, his Counterinsurgency Plan, to achieve a victory in Iraq. Senator Hillary voted "YEA". She later on reversed her position. Apparently, Sen Clinton tries time and time again to rewrite her own history. Perhaps someone should bring her attention to the Senate vote on 1/26/07, taken at 0945 hours. The confirmation of General Petraeus was 81 - 0 with 19 not voting for one reason or another.
Some time later, circa June 12, 2007, General Petraeus was deemed as incompetent. All of this can send a sane man crazy if one cannot keep track of the ever staggering disingenuous political footballs being tossed about in the various wind directions so often encountered in Washington, DC.
On Jan 17, 2007, it was reported that Sen Clinton opposed the Troop Surge into Iraq. Then, why did Sen Clinton vote to confirm General Petraeus and the plan he presented prior to confirmation and then turn around and vote on a differing side? Mind boggling that. Sen Clinton has some explaining to do if she thinks for one micro-second that she can be trusted to run the country when she cannot seem to make up her mind and breaks down into tears when the going gets rough.
Back in October of 2002, Hillary had this to say:
It is plainly evident by the lack of coverage in the alleged Main Stream Media that the "Bush Troop Surge" instead of the "American Troop Surge", is an astounding success.
The most interesting success in recent days is the fact that Iraqi Intelligence forces have infiltrated and cracked the Al Qaeda terrorist organization in Iraq and will soon totally destroy the group. This infiltration resulted in the massive air assault called Operation Phantom Phoenix, Operation Marne Thunderbolt and Operation Iron Harvest. These operations were designed to make the organization of an Al Qaeda "Tet" Offensive virtually impossible. Bill Roggio of The Long War Journal has excellent recaps of the Operations.
General Petraeus has stated many times as confirmed by Amb Crocker that a military success must come first before a political success can be borne. (The link provided is to the videos of the testimony before congressional leaders in September of 2007 and they are located at a standby/back-up blog). In recent days, political progress and success has been made...primarily the de-Ba'athification laws so pined upon and over by certain congressional members.
It can no longer be asserted, as the Democrats Reid, Pelosi and Clinton, among others, have so stated throughout 2007, that the Iraq War is lost. The War in Iraq is certainly not over but victory is clearly imminent. Also, it is clearly not lost.
Enter, then, Senator Clinton. On January, 12, 2007, Senator Clinton appeared on Meet The Press with Tim Russert. The video collection of this interview may be viewed at my VODPOD (6 videos) here or at Real Clear Politics. Hillary does have many faces on this issue.
In the interview, among many items of contention, Senator Clinton has taken credit for the successes of the "Bush Troop Surge". I find that pathetically comical because all along the Iraq War has been "Bush's War" and "Bush's This and That". Now that the victory is imminent, all of a sudden, it is "Hillary's War" and Hillary's Success". Not a word of accreditation to the unanimously confirmed Commanding General in MNF-Iraq and his overwhelmingly superior forces that carried out and implemented the General's overwhelmingly successful counterinsurgency plan. This woman is certainly not ready for the Big Times and is clearly unfit for command.

MR. RUSSERT: If General Petraeus says, "Senator, in September you called the surge the suspension of belief. It has worked, and you know it's worked"--let me finish--"you can see on the ground. I'm saying to you, Senator, or president-elect Clinton, don't destroy Iraq. It's working, the surge is working. Keep troops there just a few more months to get this reconciliation complete."Hillary's "sudden" turn around and accepting the credit for the successes of the "Bush Troop Surge" requires the willful suspension of disbelief, as she herself said about General Petraeus' testimony before the CONgress way back in September of 2007. This is unbelievable but it has been expected.
SEN. CLINTON: ...The point of the surge was to quickly move the Iraqi government and Iraqi people. That is only now beginning to happen, and I believe in large measure because the Iraqi government, they watch us, they listen to us. I know very well that they follow everything that I say. And my commitment to begin withdrawing our troops in January of 2009 is a big factor, as it is with Senator Obama, Senator Edwards, those of us on the Democratic side. It is a big factor in pushing the Iraqi government to finally do what they should have been doing all along.
