Kim Je-Yell, a Canadian detained for more than two months in North Korea has been deported to China. He was detained in the remote northeast of the country after his religious beliefs riled the authorities in the country.
He was met at the border by Canadian Consulate members and stated that there are no religious freedoms in North Korea.
Kim, a Korean-born Canadian aged in his fifties, appeared to have fallen foul of the hardline communist state due to his religious connections, according to media reports.
For over a decade, Kim had been bringing dental supplies and equipment to the oppressed areas of North Korea. He was also instrumental in setting up clinics to care for dental needs of the people in remote regions.

When he was detained on Nov 3, 2007 as reported by the Toronto Star. The organization he worked for, Christian Aid, said that he had been detained for National Security matters after he was accused of starting a church in the region.
