Keep The Patriots Rising Momentum Going!

ANO

From Ryan Gill:

March 28, 2008

Most of you already know that at Move America Forward we've been defending the defenders for some time and that lately that has meant running up against the Berkeley City Council. The radical "peace" group CodePink has been trying to run the Marine Corps office out of town for some time now and the city council signed on to the effort in full in January. They voted to send a letter to the Marines saying that if they remain in Berkeley, that they do so as "uninvited and unwelcome intruders." We weren't about to stand by while the US military gets uninvited from a US city, so we brought about a thousand of our close fiends to the next council meeting and the council agreed not to send the letter. But donĂ¢€™t be fooled: some very offensive provisions are still on the Berkeley books.

What the council refused to rescind included provisions giving free event and sound permits to CodePink every week in front of the office during business hours to harass recruiters as they try to do their jobs. As someone who has worked on getting permits from the city of Berkeley, let me be the first to tell you that this is no small gift - I would have liked to have had the city council's help in planning our events! Worse yet, the council stood by language that encouraged Berkeley citizens to "impede" the work of the recruiters: a direct call to interfere with the duties of a federal officer. To top it off, the council indignantly and repeatedly insisted that they owed no apology to anyone - truly petty and belligerent.

UNLAWFUL?
The Berkeley City Council is formally encouraging harassment of our troops

By now, we've shown up for several demonstrations in Berkeley and they might even be getting used to free speech again, but we hope to expose them to some more serious consequences, too. Our lawyers have drafted a letter to the US Attorney for Northern California that demands an investigation into whether the city engaged in unlawful or illegal behavior. We're concerned about the legality of encouraging citizens to impede the work of recruiters as well as the treatment we received when we came to protest.

Our 2/12 protest was marked by a heavy police presence, but no response to constant heated and sometimes physical confrontations. Our pleas to the Berkeley PD for help were consistently brushed off. This is further unacceptable behavior from the city and threatens to create both a slippery slope and a bad role model. Help us stop this lunacy in Berkeley before other city councils are tempted to follow suit in any way, shape, or form.

You probably know that lawyers are not cheap. And I can tell you we have more work we want to have our lawyers complete, so to cover the cost and make this effort possible, we are asking all of our supporters to make a financial donation.

It is important that we keep the pressure on Berkeley on multiple fronts. Just last week, hundreds of patriots stepped up to the plate to hold another demonstration of support for Capt. Lund and the Marines recruiting in Berkeley and 2 weeks ago we presented the Sedition report at DC's National Press Club to draw attention to the growing danger that recruiters at home face from antiwar radicals (covered by the Washington Post, FOX News Channel and more), but now we cannot rest yet. The Berkeley city council probably thinks that they've ridden out the storm now and that they basically got away with it after all; the legal avenue will be vital in applying new pressure and making it count.

The city council has responded to our demonstrations and our ad campaigns, but they've been resistant and even seem not to mind if Berkeley businesses lose money. Harassing recruiters is that high of a priority for them, but there's something about legal action that can get someone's attention, and we don't want a day to go by that they don't think of patriotic Americans and our response to their shameful actions.

Investigate Anti-American Activities in Berkeley

ANO

From Melanie Morgan:
Pro-Troop Group Demands of US Attorney:

"Investigate Anti-American Activities in Berkeley"

City Accused of Encouraging Interference with Federal Officers

SAN FRANCISCO---A law firm representing a pro-troop organization has sent a letter to the U.S. Attorney in San Francisco asking the federal government to investigate whether the Berkeley City Council's official anti-Marine position and encouragement of anti-war groups to "impede" the work of Marine recruiters constitutes a breach of law. If the City Council violated the law, the letter asks the U.S. Attorney to prosecute the perpetrators.

The letter was drafted by the attorney for pro-troop organization Move America Forward , which is the nation's largest pro-troop grassroots nonprofit.

The correspondence also voices concerns that the Berkeley Police were unresponsive and negligent to public safety during a protest the group organized in Berkeley on Feb. 12, 2007.

The original copy has already been mailed and an additional copy will be hand-delivered Monday morning with a press conference immediately following.

"We will explore every avenue to ensure that Marine Corps personnel are not harassed for simply doing their jobs, especially not by a city government," said Catherine Moy, Executive Director of Move America Forward.

Move America Forward has been active in organizing demonstrations as well as several ad campaigns rebuking the Berkeley City Council since they called Marine Recruiters "uninvited and unwelcome intruders" at a Jan. 29 council meeting. The council also reserved a publicly funded parking space and gave free sound permits to a radical anti-war group protesting the office.

"That is a blatant misuse of tax dollars and a violation of civil rights" said Moy, referring to the privileges granted to Code Pink, the antiwar group that received special treatment from the council.

"We have been fighting them all the way and this is simply the next step," said Melanie Morgan, Move America Forward's co-founder.

Morgan is also demanding that Berkeley's mayor give a full and official apology to all military personnel, veterans, and their families, and rescind the resolutions giving special treatment to Code Pink.

"Berkeley has got to realize that we're not going away," Morgan concluded.

CALL TO ACTION: Patriots Converge

ANO

Patriots across the Nation have received the following via email...

CALL TO ACTION

Move America Forward, is calling on patriotic Americans from near and far to come to Berkeley, California and join us for a protest of the Berkeley City Council - in response to their recent efforts to silence the Marines and chase all vestiges of the military out of their city. Remember, the City Council called the Marines, "unwelcome intruders" and accused them of commiting acts of "barbarity."

Well now the rest of America will be heard from this Tuesday, February 12th when we organize a giant pro-America rally to protest the Berkeley City Council when they gather for their City Council meeting.

The City Council meeting takes place at 7:00 PM at 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Berkeley, CA.

Move America Forward is asking people to show up by 5:00 PM if possible - so we have a crowd gathered in time for the media crews, and so we can secure seats for supporters inside the City Council Chambers.

(Note: Since the media will be covering this story all day, we'll have Move America Forward staffers outside the City Council chambers beginning at 5:00 AM. We'd sure like it if some of you could either join us for brief periods of time throughout the day, or join us for our all day pro-troop vigil!)

Again - the pro-troop/anti-Berkeley City Council rally takes place on Tuesday, February 12th, outside of their City Council Chambers. We're asking people to join us by 5:00 PM if possible. The address: 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Berkeley, CA. You can get a map of the location - HERE.

Bring your American flag with you!

Call To Action: Sign This MAF Petition!

ANO

Please, "sign" the petition below. We will be collecting as many electronic signatures as possible during the next several weeks. We will then print out the signed petitions and deliver hard copies to all of the individuals identified in the "To:" field.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To: The City Council, Mayor and City Manager of Berkeley, California

We, the undersigned, do register our complete outrage with the City of Berkeley for the recent resolutions that criticized our Marines, as part of an effort to harass the Marine Recruiting Center and chase all vestiges of the United States military outside of the city of Berkeley, California.

We take particular umbrage with the instructions given to the City Manager of Berkeley to tell the United States Marines that they are, "uninvited and unwelcome intruders."

It is shameful for you to attack our military men and women who nobly and bravely serve this nation to protect our security and defend our freedoms and liberties. Those liberties include the right to Freedom of Speech, which you seem to believe should not be afforded to the members of the United States Marine Corps and service personnel in other branches of the Armed Forces.

I call upon you to immediately revoke the resolutions passed that defamed and insulted our U.S. Marines and issue a public apology to this nation, and in particular, the honorable and heroic men and women of the United States military.

D-Day Has Come To The Pink City

ANO

In a scant 5 hours time, the City Of Pink frilled goons will get the trouncing of their lifetimes by True Red Blooded American Patriots.

The LA Times is all over it...or not.
[...] "We're not looking for a fight, and we expect the police to be there to help keep the peace," Rae Abileah, a national organizer for Code Pink, said about the group's vigil. "The right-wing groups are trying to make this into an issue of whether you are for or against the Marines. It's not about that. It's about the war in Iraq and the deceitful tactics by military recruiters." [...]
Nice try, ass-wipe. Nice try. Not looking for a fight? Morons...
[...] Berkeley's declaration, introduced before the city's Peace and Justice Commission, accused the United States of repeatedly "launching illegal, immoral and unprovoked wars of aggression" and said "the Bush administration launched the most recent of those wars in Iraq and is threatening the possibility of war in Iran." [...]
These blithering fools have got it all back asswards, don't they? These socialist SCUM anti-Americanists did not expect the outrage that they have so richly deserved.

And what about the blithering fool that boasted about not being able "to make the grade" and was mustered out to the USMC? Idgit. Have you ever noticed that MOST of the "alleged" anti-war vets are the ones that have been booted OUT of the military because they were less than honorable? Imagine that. Sniveling whiners all and will not accept responsibility for their own cowardice. So sad.
[...] The return fire was swift. Several Republican senators sponsored a bill to reroute $2.3 million in federal funding from Berkeley to the Marines. In the last 10 days, city officials have received 26,000 e-mails, mostly from irate people who called the declaration irresponsible. Several council members have received death threats. [...]

[...] "The e-mails are running 15 to 1 in favor of the Marines," said Councilman Gordon Wozniak, one of the dissenters in the 6-3 vote on the declaration. "They've run the gamut from being very thoughtful to dismissing Berkeley citizens as liberal scum." [...]
Sounds like they are severely outnumbered...AGAIN! They ain't seen nuttin' yet, honey!

In an email from Melanie morgan scads of us True Patriots receivedd:
Don't believe the propaganda from the Berkeley City Council or the New York Times for a minute.

Move America Forward received a very hostile reception from the City officials during our planning session with police and bureaucrats.

It could get ugly tomorrow.

Patriots are prepared.

BERKELEY, Calif - On Tuesday night, the nine members of the Berkeley City Council are expected to do something they, or the Marines, for that matter, very rarely do: retreat in the face of fierce opposition. [...]

D-Day Minus One For BERZERKeley

ANO

Tomorrow is The Big Day for Moonbat Slaying in the Bay Area. As many others, I have received emails from Move America Forward and I present them here...

From MAFJoe...

If you want to get a seat at Tuesday night's Berkeley City Council meeting, you better start lining up now. And you might want to bring earplugs. And a flak jacket.

Hundreds of protesters from across the country and the political spectrum are expected to descend on City Hall with bullhorns, drums, banners and plenty of vitriol in anticipation of the City Council's debate over the Marines' recruiting station in town.

"We're starting to get people coming in from all over the U.S.," said Catherine Moy, executive director of Move America Forward, one of several pro- military groups planning an all-day protest Tuesday at Maudelle Shirek City Hall. "People are pretty upset. We want to avoid clashes, but it could be really, really big. We don't really know what's going to happen."

Please wish us well in our efforts to fight back so that NO AMERICAN CITY may ever feel emboldened to attack our military and try to chase them out of town. Complete details on our pro-troop push back that takes place this Tuesday, February 12th can be found at our website.

We'll be posting pictures, video, blog updates throughout the day as we a day-long 5:00 AM - 7:00 PM protest and then occupy the City Council Chambers until our voices have been heard and the Council takes action to rescind these awful anti-military resolutions they passed.

From Mary Pearson
Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates & Council Member Linda Maio Have Some Explaining to Do

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Despite efforts by Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates and some City Council members to sound conciliatory notes over the recent anti-military resolutions passed by the Council, new evidence has come to light calling into question the sincerity of Council Member Linda Maio and Mayor Tom Bates.

On February 2, 2008, Berkeley City Council Member Linda Maio told the Bay Area News Group's Doug Oakley:
"I don't think any of us paid enough attention to it, and people want to rewrite it to more accurately portray our sentiments," said Maio, who supported the resolutions. "We really do have a great deal of concern for the people in our military, and we don't want to be critical of the sacrifices they are making."
That concern does not appear to be very sincere.

The pro-troop organization Move America Forward has obtained an email sent out by Council Member Maio who is actively working with Code Pink to stack the Berkeley City Council meeting with anti-military protestors who want to chase the Marines out of Berkeley:
Hi [name redacted], we have received info that the marines and their supporters are gearing up to come to the Feb 12th council meeting to shame us and attack us, in large numbers. Now that Laurie and Betty have put on a recommendation to rescind what we did (on the agenda of Feb 12th) we expect they will jam the microphone with their diatribes. Press will be there in full force. The regular meeting starts at 7 p.m. People need to get there early enough to get in and grab a seat. Pls help pass on the word. The fire dept will not allow more people in than room can hold. Therefore, I am urging people to come early and occupy a seat, and be prepared to speak too and represent our city's values next Tuesday.
Linda
Melanie Morgan, Chairman of Move America Forward criticized the double-speak by Council Member Maio.

"Clearly Linda Maio wanted the press to believe that she was somehow unaware of the content of the anti-military resolutions she voted for by saying she hadn't 'paid enough attention it.'

"However, now we learn that Maio is actively working with Code Pink to mobilize the very same proponents of the anti-military resolutions to come and stack Tuesday's City Council meeting. It's very disingenuous and proves that the City Council is not truly apologetic for their actions," said Move America Forward's Melanie Morgan.

Similarly, Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates has told reporters that he felt the Berkeley City Council had perhaps gone "too far" with the three resolutions they passed on January 29, 2008.

But those words appear, like Councilmember Maio's, to ring hollow, as Move America Forward has discovered that Mayor Bates himself has participated in Code Pink's protests outside of the U.S. Marine Recruiting Center - in an effort to harass the Marines and force them to leave town.

As of Saturday, February 9, 2008, a photograph of Mayor Bates participating in the protest at the Marine Recruiting Center is posted on the website of Code Pink:

"Mayor Bates' actions speak louder than words. While he has been trying to quell the uprising against the Berkeley City Council for their anti-military actions, he has been actively working with Code Pink to harass the Marines and chase them out of town.

"If Mayor Bates and the Berkeley City Council want to put this issue to rest they need to rescind all three anti-military resolutions passed on January 29th and issue a formal, written apology, to the U.S. Marine Corps and all military men and women serving this nation," said Melanie Morgan.

**NOTE: On Tuesday, February 12th, Move America Forward will lead an all-day pro-troop demonstration and protest against the Berkeley City Council outside the Council Chambers at 2134 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way in Berkeley, CA. The protest will begin at 5:00 AM - yes, in the morning - and continue all the way through the Berkeley City Council meeting that night at 7:00 PM.

**NOTE 2: Move America Forward can provide you with a higher-resolution photograph of Mayor Bates participation in the protests at the Marine Recruiting Center. If you would like a higher-resolution image, email Joe Wierzbicki at: jwierzbicki@rmrwest.com

In Berkeley, Push To Rescind Letter To Marines

ANO

Previous entries here, here, here and here...to name a few.

(02-04) 18:52 PST Berkeley -- A week after blasting the Marines as "unwelcome intruders" in Berkeley, two City Council members want the city to back off the declaration that ignited the wrath of the nation's right wing and inspired a Republican senator to try to sever Berkeley's federal funding.

Council members Betty Olds and Laurie Capitelli on Monday proposed that Berkeley rescind its letter to the U.S. Marine Corps that stated that the downtown Berkeley recruiting center "is not welcome in our city," and publicly declare that Berkeley is against the war but supports the troops.

The City Council will vote on Olds' and Capitelli's two proposals at its meeting next Tuesday.

"I think we shouldn't be seen across the country as hating the Marines," said Olds, who voted against last week's proposals. "If you make a mistake, like we did, you should admit it and correct it and move on."

The brouhaha started last week when the council passed two items condemning the Marine recruiting center on Shattuck Square, which opened about a year ago. The first called on the city clerk to send a letter to the Marines telling them they're unwelcome, and the second item granted Code Pink a parking space in front of the recruiting office every Wednesday afternoon and allowed the group to operate a loudspeaker.

After the items passed, the council was besieged with criticism from right-wing groups and military supporters. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., proposed that the federal government cut off funds for Berkeley, including lunch programs, ferry service and UC Berkeley.

Olds said she heard from hundreds of people angered by the city's action, including many in her Berkeley hills district.

"People are so mad about this. They have relatives in the service, and now they think they're not welcome in Berkeley," she said. "My twin brother was a Marine in World War II. He'd be turning in his grave if he saw this."

The council appears split on the idea of backing down. Some council members said the original proposals inadvertently insulted veterans and those currently serving in the military. Others said Berkeley should stand by its convictions.

"People are used to Berkeley taking a stand for peace, but you have to do it intelligently," said Councilman Kriss Worthington, who voted against sending the letter calling the Marine Corps unwelcome. "You don't want to slap one group in the face and then, the next minute, slap the other group. I think we have an obligation to be thoughtful and sensitive and not be counterproductive to the cause of peace."

Councilwoman Dona Spring said the council should not be cowed by the volume of hate mail and threats.

"I still oppose the Marines recruiting in Berkeley because it's one way of protesting this wasteful war," she said. "Our military policy is a shambles. But we're not in opposition to the Marines; we oppose the policy that directs the Marines."

Meanwhile, the Code Pink protesters said they were disappointed that Berkeley might rescind its letter to the Marines.

"I hope they're not acting out of intimidation," said Code Pink spokeswoman Medea Benjamin. "Berkeley is a city of peace, and a recruiting station does not fit Berkeley's values."

Mayor Tom Bates, a former Army captain, said it probably wouldn't hurt if the council clarified its position.

"It's a symbol, but there are consequences to symbols," he said. "A lot of people think we're anti-Marine, but there's a difference between the warriors and the war. This is an attempt to clarify that."

NEWS FLASH: Code Pinkies Call To Marines For...HELP!

ANO

This is just too rich...message from Melanie Morgan...
Eamon Kelley, the young Marine who is featured in Move America Forward's TV commercial that ran on Fox News earlier this week, spent his day today in Berkeley, Calif. in front of the Marine recruiting offices.

Another national/local ad blitz begins on Monday.

Meanwhile, CodePink has set up a virtual blockade at the recruiting center, expanding it's efforts to harass our troops and turn back young Americans looking to enlist. (The Berkeley City Council stubbornly refuses to apologize and continues subsidizing free parking for CodePink efforts to drive our soldiers out of town.)

Eamon, who is recovering from back surgery, gutted it out under blazing skies in the boycotted town.

He sent me this e-mail after spending four hours there.

Titter Meter: HIGH.
"While we were at the protest in Berkeley from 12 to 4 PM a white volvo drove by and a man spat upon code pink. They chased him down the street and got into a verbal altercation. The police were NO WHERE in sight. That's not the best part, ready for this? Medea Benjamin yelled and I quote "Marines!" she actually yelled for our help because this man had stepped out of his car. Lol. I even asked her if she was yelling Police and she told me "I said Marines" then put her arm around my friend Allen (the Marine vet) Ironic? Ok back to the emails!!" [...]
UNBELIEVABLE!!

Medea Benjamin - the Code Pink Slut - dares to call out to the Marines for help? How bizarre is that?

On That Berzerkeley City Quagmire

ANO

OK. Chuck at From My Position...On The Way, has rewritten the retarded "resolution" that has the City Of Berzerkeley in the cross hairs and here is the amended text, as it should have been...
(Okay, I replaced a few nouns here and there. see if you can find out what really happened..)
Members of the Berkeley City Council showed their opposition to a Muslim Mosque in Downtown Berkeley last night.

Council members supported the two resolutions-one supporting anti-war protests and the other criticizing Muslim indoctrination practices-citing opposition to the war in Iraq, deceptive educating practices and the right to protest.

"By taking a stand against Islam we are protecting the health and safety of our youth," said PhoeBe Sorgen, a member of the Berkeley Peace and Justice Commission. "I see the protest as taking a proud and courageous stand."

Code Pink, a national anti-war grassroots organization, will be granted a parking spot for their regular Wednesday afternoon protests and will not need to apply for a sound permit for the next six months, under one resolution.

The other resolution more directly criticizes the presence of the center in Berkeley. The city manager was directed to send a letter to the Council on Islamic Affairs saying they are "uninvited and unwelcome intruders" in the city.

In addition, the city attorney has been directed to investigate whether the city's anti-discrimination laws can be enforced, based on Islam's consideration of sexual orientation in deciding who may practice their religeon.

Muslim Imams did not return calls for comment yesterday.

The other initiative is forging ahead:

Local activists have proposed an initiative for the November 2008 elections that would require Islamic worship centers to acquire a special use permit.

"The Muslims ought to have better sense than to come here," [Councilwoman Betty] Olds said.
--Chuck
That about sums it up.

Good job Chuck and get well soon!!

Sacred Ground UPDATED

ANO

The War on Berkeley California is far from over.Yesterday, thousands of Red, White and Blue, Flag waving Patriots ascended on The City of Pink in numbers which overwhelmed the hundreds or so of anti-Americanists than have occupied "Indian Territory".

The video above is a tribute to the Armed Forces members past, present and future that have made it possible for Americans to be as free as they are, to perform random acts of violence, stupidity or reasoned citizens, as they so choose. No other Nation allows for this as the United Sates does.

My son, MJ, approaching 22 years of age, is now serving with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, 187th Rakkassans, 3rdBCT, Company B, someplace in Iraq.

He has been wounded twice, the last one nearly sending him to Germany for treatment which would have sent him Stateside. He fought tooth and nail to be treated in Kuwait and "pretended" to be all better. They fitted him with special boots, temporarily, so he could return to his unit. You see, he is the squads' Grenadier. And, Grenadiers kick enemy rear ends. That is his job.

He volunteered to serve, in a time of war, knowing that there would be a chance that he would go to war. My son is a Patriot. He knew the risks and knows the risks and now that he is in Indian Country, that is where he will live until he comes home, come hell or high water, or God forbid, otherwise.

Thousands have gone before him and thousands will follow. I was one that went before him as are many men that I know. My two Godsons have since followed. One is in Korea and the other in AIT. Three of my son's cousins are now serving. One in Germany, one in Afghanistan and one in Iraq.

How dare the theoretical "peace activists" besmirch the very name of the USMC, this country and the men and women buried in Sacred Ground. Yes, they have that right because thousands have died to guarantee that right. They do not have the right to insult them...without suffering the consequences. And, the consequences are those transpiring at this very moment, and we can see who the real American Patriots are in this country...Sen Harry Reid isn't one of them either.

The DeMint Semper Fi Bill, if passed, will strip the City of Berkeley (The Pink City0 of all federal funding as a consequence of the City Councils' actions regardless if they "recant" and say "I, sorry". Assemblyman Guy Houston is also gutting Berkley of transportation funding by the State. Berkeley will learn, finally, that there are indeed limitations to Free Speech due to the consequences thereof. It is called personal and professional accountability and responsibility. They may or may not learn. From what I have seen so far, you can't teach a rat to be a humming bird.

As the day unfolded, we received this email from Melanie Morgan, The Boss at Move America Forward...the organization that rallied the Patriots to trump Ladies(?) in Pink:
Pro-troop demonstration still going strong - but here is my after action report after 15 hours on the frontlines.
If I were a headline writer I would describe the situation as CHAOS AND ANARCHY IN BERKELEY today.
Not by our side - by the Marine haters and American traitors.
The cops were openly hostile toward the people who showed up at 5:00 a.m., never stepping in to protect the patriots from the assaults that took place against elderly folks, Gold Star parents, Blue Star families and Joe and Jane Citizen who were waving the flags and showing their pride in the Marines. The police allowed hundreds of Berkeley High School kids (accompanied by their teachers) to gather with CodePink, receive their mandatory face masks and F_ _Bush t-shirts, and allowed them to mill around our PA where they tried to cut the power cords to the system.
Berkeley police repeatedly allowed Code Pink to violate our permits, and never lifted a finger to stop their crowd from interfering with our activities until the very end, after we screamed blue bloody hell.
When Catherine Moy, the Executive Director of MAF called the police to tell them a riot was erupting in the early hours - THEY HUNG UP ON HER.
Cat called the Highway Patrol, who referred her back to the Berkeley police - WHO HUNG UP ON HER.
It was positively shameful.
Move America Forward's attorney Jim Sweeney took depositions from ten people who were assaulted by Code Pink, International A.N.S.W.E.R. and socialists who showed up en masse.
The City Council has been notified by fax that we are filing a federal lawsuit for deprivation of our civil rights.
We didn't start this fight, but we are damn sure gonna finish it.
The pro-troops demonstration is still going strong at 7:30 p.m. PST, with all streets around the Berkeley City Council closed off as the Code Pinkos continue to receive preferential treatment by the Berkeley PD.
Move America Forward's sound permit was turned off at 5:00 in the afternoon, while the Pinkos were allowed to use their system to sing Kumbaya and other 60's peace chants.
Berkeley, the birthplace of free speech, is now officially the center of intolerant hatred for anyone who sticks up for the men and women who are fighting and dying to protect THEIR rights.
Before our sound system was nearly sabotaged, a young man posing as a pro-troop supporter asked to speak to the crowd. I allowed him to talk (about his family's 'service', when he started spewing obscenities about the 'illegal, immoral, unjust war' . I grabbed the microphone back, and he tried to clobber me with it.
Gold Star Dad Mark Crowley knocked him to the ground, where he found a face full of dirt to keep him company.
Our side sang God Bless America, America the beautiful and other stirring songs that seemed to enrage the elderly commies.
25,000 petitions were collected by Move America Forward with the help of other pro-troops groups like Gathering of Eagles, EaglesUp, Vets for Freedom and others.
There were Eagles EVERYWHERE today.
And Patriot Guard Riders.
And American Legion vets.
And members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
5,000 petition signatures were also collected by an organization in Washington headed by Nicholas Provenzano, who flew out to Berkeley on the red-eye to deliver to the City Council announcing an economic boycott of Berkeley until it reverses it shameful treatment of our Marines.
Red, White and Blue Americans rushed to our side from Atlanta, Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania, Colorado, San Diego, and other parts of the United States.
Our crowds numbered into the thousands throughout the day.
So gratifying. So humbling.
People of all ages, races, and political backgrounds (yes even some incensed liberals) honored our active duty service members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and in other parts around the world.
We spoke of the sacrifice and the nobility of the military families who support their sons and daughters, husbands and wives.
And we gave a HOOO-AWW especially to our Marines, who find themselves prevented from speaking while under assault, not from a evil enemy abroad, but from the insurgents here at home.
We should be proud and exhilarated by the turn-out and passion of so many people who set aside their lives, showed up, and spoke out.
I don't know what will happen with the Berkeley City Council, but I would be you that dollars to donuts, they'll issue some mealy-mouthed WE SUPPORT THE TROOPS, JUST NOT THEIR MISSION crap, and then keep in place all the restrictions that make recruiting on Shattuck avenue all but impossible.
I have no idea how the media will portray this historic event - I can only tell you that 3 TV helicopters were overhead almost all day long, every major media outlet in the Bay Area, as well as national TV and print reporters - but OUR people spoke eloquently, passionately, and with conviction about the hateful attitude that the City of Berkeley has displayed toward the USMC.
Warmest,
Melanie
So, the City of Berkeley not only violated the rights of citizen Marines, they violated the rights of others that happen to disagree with their twisted view on the United States Constitution.

In a video which can be seen at Amy Proctor's web site here, a Vietnam War Veteran, nearly in tears said that it was wrong then and it is wrong now, reflecting on his experiences upon coming home from that war.

The purported Main Stream Media has not reported the near riot conditions and a blogger commented that we are close to another Kent State incident, in reverse, in Berkeley. Is this what we want?

In a Q&A with Harry Reid in regards to the Berkeley Incident:
QUESTION: Do you think the statement made by the Berkeley City Council was appropriate? What should the response of the United States Senate be?
REID: To be very honest with you, I don't know what the Berkeley City Council said. I have enough trouble keeping track of the Las Vegas City Council, so I'm sorry...
QUESTION: They said the Marines were not welcome in Berkeley.
REID: Well, if they said that, I'm disappointed. The Marine Corps should be welcome any place in the United States.
I agree with Bryan; for the very first time in years, I can agree with Sen Harry Reid on something. Then, Reid, later in the day, pulled an unprecedented maneuver to delay voting on the DeMint Bill. Reid is back on the Bad Boy list now. Rumor has it that Reid is waiting to see if Berkeley apologizes...don't hold your breathe. Other bloggers have chronicled the violence of the alleged "peace activists".

Earlier in the day yesterday, Brian Faughnan of the Weekly Standard, among other things had this to say about Reid's delaying tactic:
Lost amidst the debate, and the move by Harry Reid to shield Berkeley from Congressional action until they could retract their policy, is this fact: Berkeley isn't about to change anything:
The City of Berkeley will do what they have to do in order to keep their federal funding and state funding; they cannot exist without the hand-outs. We know it and they know it.

UPDATE(S) PATRIOTS TRUMP MORONS!!

I call bullshit!
BERKELEY, Calif. - City councilmembers who were criticized for telling Marine recruiters they don't belong in Berkeley are moderating their position.
They now say they oppose the war in Iraq but support the troops.
Berkeley's City Council voted two weeks ago to send a letter to a downtown recruiting station advising the Marines they were not welcome.
In a session that stretched into early Wednesday, the council said they recognize recruiters' right to be in Berkeley. The council reiterated its opposition to the war but said, "We deeply respect and support the men and women in our armed forces."
The meeting drew hundreds of people on both sides of the issue who rallied all day and into the night outside City Hall.
And I have some ocean property to sell you in Montana...

Berkeley City Council moderates anti-Marine position

The Berkeley City Council voted early Wednesday to rescind a previous vote that said Marine recruiters are "not welcome in this city," but held tight to its anti-war stance. [...]
[...] An American flag was set aflame outside the City Council chambers, damaging a pair of bicycles, police said. [...]
Until the actions of the anti-Americanists are condemned and stopped, we need to keep up the pressure.

MOVE AMERICA FORWARD PLANS PROTEST AT BERKELEY CITY COUNCIL OVER MARINE RECRUITING CENTER HARASSMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Berkeley Mayor - Free Speech Thief

BERKELEY Ă¢€“ Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates, convicted of stealing 1,000 free newspapers from the Daily Californian newsstands in 2002, is at it again.

The Mayor is attempting to steal the free speech rights of the United States Marine Corps by harassing the recruiting center into abandoning its lease.

Move America Forward has launched a petition drive denouncing the Mayor and the Council, while demanding an apology to the USMC at its website.

The response was so overwhelming it crashed the site within minutes after launching, fueled by intense coverage from bloggers, talk radio, Internet, television reports and pro-troops organizations like the American Legion, Vets for Freedom, Gathering of Eagles and EaglesUp.

Move America Forward plans to deliver the protest petitions at the Berkeley City Council's next regularly scheduled meeting on February 12th.

"We are looking at all options to stop Berkeley from issuing gifts of public funds, such as free parking spaces, and violating the Constitution," said Catherine Moy, Executive Director of Move America Forward. "We have contacted all branches of our government to redress these issues, and will explore all legal, legislative and executive avenues to stop the injustice perpetrated by the Berkeley City Council."

A national backlash erupted last week over Berkeley's attack on Marines. Mayor Tom Bates was forced to reconsider resolutions telling America's heroes they are "intruders."

However, Bates has taken a further steps to shutter the doors of the Marine's recruiting station.

Bates told the Contra Costa Times that he would broker a deal to release the Marine's from their building lease. But the Marines said they will stay.

"Mayor Bates, in his arrogance, has crossed the line by trying to steal the Marine's First Amendment Rights, and we will not stand for this treasonous behavior. His stunning offer to "broker a deal" to release the Marine's from its building lease shows the depth of his contempt for our military men and women," said Melanie Morgan, chairman of Move America Forward. "Our group will stand with the Marines until their attackers stop."

The Berkeley council on Tuesday passed two resolutions condemning the Marines as part of a campaign by anti-war activists to shut down the recruiting center. The council also gave Code Pink, a leftist group that daily harasses the Marines with hate speech, a free parking place and noise permit.

Move America Forward, initiated a campaign for people to call and email the rogue City Council. Thousands of e-mails, calls and letters of denunciation have poured into the offices of Bates and other council members who support the efforts to drive the USMC out of town.

Move America Forward applauds the proposed legislation by U.S. Senator Jim DeMint to strip Berkeley of all pork barrel spending, amounting to $2.1 million dollars.

A companion bill in Congress is now being prepared.

Michelle Malkin brings us word on Senator Jim DeMint and the American Legion...
DeMint to Berkeley: Support Our Marines or Lose Federal Funds

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) released the following statement in response to the decision by the City Council of Berkeley, California to evict the U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Station from the city.

"This is a slap in the face to all brave service men and women and their families. The First Amendment gives the City of Berkeley the right to be idiotic, but from now on they should do it with their own money. If the city can't show respect for the Marines that have fought, bled and died for their freedom, Berkeley should not be receiving special taxpayer funded handouts. I am currently drafting legislation to ensure that American taxpayers aren't forced to pay for this insult by rescinding all of the earmarks for Berkeley in the Omnibus Appropriations bill, and to transfer the funds to the Marine Corps."
That's what I'm talking about right there! And now, some words from the American Legion:
"Osama bin Laden couldn't have said it better," American Legion National Commander Marty Conatser said of the Berkeley City Council Resolution, which tells the Marines that they are not welcome there. "Disgraceful, disloyal, ungrateful. These words are too kind in describing the actions of the public officials in Berkeley, who voted for this disgrace. Nonetheless, our Marines continue to bravely serve and in so doing, allow Americans to spout such foolishness. The American Legion not only strongly condemns this action by the City Council but also believes that a sincere apology is in order to all Marines, past and present."

Conatser, the leader of the nation's largest veterans organization, was referring to a measure passed by the Council 8-1 Tuesday, that tells the U.S. Marine Corps that one of its recruiting stations is "not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do as uninvited and unwelcome intruders."

The City Council marched in complete lock-step with radical anti-war group Code Pink in attempting to drive out Marine recruiters from its San Francisco suburb. The City Council also voted 8-1 to give Code Pink a free parking space in front of a recruiting station, along with a free sound permit for protesting once a week. Marine recruiters at Berkeley have faced harassment from protestors who regularly block nearby sidewalks, generate excessive noise and disrupt business.

"I have been a recruiter in the National Guard and I know that it's tough duty, with long hours," Conatser said. "What these recruiters do is essential to our national security. Without recruiters we have no military. And I don't think we can count on the flower children from Berkeley to protect this nation when it comes under attack. They have to remember that Marines are not the enemy; the terrorists are."
Screw them all.

Matt Sanchez states; Berkeley Secedes from the Union--Declares Marines the Enemy
[...] Still no word as to why the Marine Corps, of all services, has been singled out, but it's nice to know the people of Berkeley would consider Marines a bigger threat. [...]
One would think that if the military is so bad and so evil, it wouldn't be a very good idea to piss us off like this. Ya know?

BERKELEY, Calif. - While the City Council here has little - read, no - sway over foreign policy and distant wars, local parking is a different matter. Berkeley City Councilman ANTI-WAR VIETNAM VIEWS DISCHARGED FROM MILITARY SERVICE
Folks, this is what we are up against on Tuesday. His name is Max Anderson. Remember it.
We will do just that.

In other news, apparently, we are giving the defeatocrats HEARTBURN, due to federal and state funds being proposed to be stripped of the City Of Code Stupid.
Oh, Berkeley. Republican Assemblyman Guy Houston has announced plans to withhold $3.3 million in state road funding from the city of Berkeley over its decision to send the US Marines a letter effectively banning them from recruiting within city limits, reports the San Jose Mercury News. This is aside from the $2.3 million in federal funding being challenged by Republican congressmen who were also offended. The city will be host to an anti-anti-war protest on Tuesday by the pro-Marine organization Move America Forward. Sigh
Burn the city to the ground and be done with it.

Even MSLSD says that the dweebs in Pink City are insignificant:
[...] Keeping with this activist tradition, the City Council passes many resolutions on U.S. foreign policy, usually to no effect.
Morons...
